Let’s recap the journey of the W2 by looking at how we got here and how this unit is different from the W1. We will also give you some questions to ask yourself to help determine if the W1 or the W2 unit is the better choice for your build.

After pioneering the first 100% brand new drop-in turbo for the 10th generation Honda Civic and CRV the team here learned a lot. We learned how well these units performed. We saw their strengths and their opportunities for improvement and we watched as the market grew to be ready for the next level in performance on these L15 engines. The team took all of that new info and applied it to making the bigger brother to the W1 from the ground-up.

In Design blog part 1 we laid out exactly what our goals were for the W2.

  • Make more horsepower and torque than the W1

  • 100% brand new unit, no cores

  • True drop-in like the W1, fully reversible install with no hassle

The team is happy to say that we succeed in all of our goals. The W2 is able to make over 45+whp and 30+ ft-lb of torque on average over the W1 and it can do all this on a stock block in large part due to our new turbine housing selection. Even more, power is possible with a stronger bottom end and some extra fueling. We’ll show you just how much more later this year.

The W2 comes with a larger center section and rotating assembly in the form of a new hybrid MHI TD04.5 bearing section. These larger bearings and water jackets accomplish a lot of things for us. Their larger size means they are more durable and better suited to the task of handling more boost pressure and power. Further, the larger cooling pathway helps keep temperatures under control and maintain longevity. Keeping the same size wheels but with the larger CHRA allowed us to increase the overall performance of the unit.

Of course, the new W2 is a totally brand new unit. There is no need to send us back a core, wait for long build times, or anything of the sort. And don’t forget about that “easy to install part”. Getting such a large turbo to fit in the confines of your Honda Civic demanded us to get creative as we were pushed certain things to the limit. Parts like the OEM heat shield and hood prop bracket would no longer fit given our larger design. However, instead of letting you figure it out, we took care of it. You’ll be getting a new heat shield, hood prop bracket, and of course all the hardware you need for a seamless install. No running to the parts store.

In the case that you are an existing W1 owner and are licking your chops for the chance to get a W2 but just aren’t sure what to do with your W1, well we got you. For a limited time we are making it a bit easier by offering a trade-in of your W1 for credit on a W2. That’s right, we will buy back your used W1 for up to $600 and give you a refund or store credit on the purchase of your W2. Just our little way of saying thanks for being a part of the team. W1 vs W2 Full Turbo.jpg

A W1 will be more your style if you..

  • Have a few bolt-ons

  • Are looking to stay as close to the feel of the OEM power band as possible, more power with good low RPM responsiveness

  • Race the car in autocross or HPDE style events

  • Want to hang with some V8’s and take a kill from time to time

  • Are upgrading to a CVT equipped car

  • Not looking to go over ~330whp

A W2 will be the sauce if you..

  • Are upgrading from an existing W1 unit and are ready to take it to the next level

  • Are fully bolted and trying to get max power from your stock block 1.5L

  • Plan to build your engine in the future for even more boost

  • Prefer the top end power and like really revving the car out

  • Race the car in big-time attack style events or drag racing

  • Want to beat several V8’s and be known as the guy with the fast Civic on the streets

  • Looking for 350whp+

Whatever flavor you desire, 27WON can tingle your taste buds.

P.S> For those pondering we will have a ball bearing version coming in late spring this year.

Thanks again for making us the preferred choice for all things 10th gen.
