In our last blog we discussed the OEM FL5 exhaust and what we though about it, but today we’re ready to move onto something bigger, better and louder too.
Since starting this company in 2017, we have always prided ourselves on our commitment to quality, fit & finish, and sweet sweet sounds.
While I love all the products we make there are two products that I get the most pride from. #1 is our full intercooler systems and #2 is our line-up of catback and turbo-back exhaust systems.
A nice exhaust upgrade is one part by itself that can change the look and attitude of any ride, especially these turbo Honda’s. It is with great pleasure that I share with you guys the fresh drop of our new valved exhaust system for the 2023 + FL5 Honda Civic Type R.
2023+ Honda Civic Type R(FL5) Valved Exhaust System (Resonated)
Once again we have created what I believe to be the best-performing and sounding exhaust system for the new FL5.
This system is our most meticulously and tested design to date and as such you get to reap the benefits laid out to you below.
Let’s start this off with a reminder that this turbo K20 likes to breathe and by opening up the exhaust system we can reduce a lot of back pressure and see some big power gains.
We did that with our exclusive to the Honda market 80mm exhaust piping. That translates to 3.125” for you non-metric folk which means that we have the ONLY TRUE 3” exhaust on the market for your FL5. This large diameter piping translates to power gains of 5 to 20whp over the the full RPM window. It shines up top in those higher RPM’s when the OEM system just starts to choke up. No quitters here with this system.
2023+ Honda Civic Type R(FL5) Valved Exhaust System (Resonated)
A distinctive feature of the FL5 factory exhaust was the introduction of an exhaust valve.
This is a valve in your center tip that is variable with drive mode and throttle/rpm placement. In order to make sure you don’t end up with a CEL’s or being too loud in the lower RPM window we opted to keep an exhaust valve in the system.
A simple swapover of the OE valve motor ensures that you get variable and crispy sounds in all your driving conditions.
I mentioned at the start of this blog that we spent more time designing this exhaust than any of our previous exhausts and that is with reason. Dialing in the exhaust notes of these new turbo GDI Civics and getting close to the retail price of our FK8 exhaust presented an intense challenge.
We looked and adjusted everything we could. From pipe size to type, mufflers, resonator, and even tip size all played a part in dialing in this tone. So much so that we even designed a brand new muffler that is specific to the FL5.
This exhaust comes with two options for the mid-pipe to fine tune the sound to your content. Be sure and read the web-listing for all the details on selecting your mid-pipe.
If you remember, we pioneered the tri-tip look with the larger center tip and two smaller outer tips for the FK8.
It was such a good look that seemingly even Honda opted to go with that for the new FL5.
We kept true to what looks the best and worked with the lines of the car by again using this same style for the new CTR. Beautiful SS polished tips grace your rear bumper with a 115mm center tip and two 100mm side tips. 27WON laser engraved side plates finish off the look.
