Honda CivicX Race MAF – Why You Need This for your 10th Gen

With the recent launch of the 27WON Turbo Inlet Pipe we’ve heard a lot of you asking about a Race MAF upgrade for your current 27WON Cold Air Intake System.

Guess what Fam… here is your first view in all its glory. It really is fitting next to the new Turbo Inlet Pipe. Your 10th Generation Civic is about to get another dose of 27WON Love!

The turbo inlet pipe doesn’t look so big anymore does it? This is for good reason so let’s cover that now.

There are two key reasons a larger “race” MAF housing is a critical step in producing more power with your L15B7 engine.

1) Bigger is basically better (within limits): Just like a high flow intake system and now with our introduction of the first performance turbo inlet pipe; a highly efficient airflow path into the turbocharger compressor inlet is beneficial. In this situation, a larger MAF housing reduces airflow restriction and thus makes it easier for your engine to produce power.

2) Tuning: All sensors have limits. The MAF sensor has a limit that can be reached once a certain amount of Mass Airflow (MAF) is ingested through the intake system. The sensor input range will be maxxed and will no longer be able to output an accurate signal to the ECU. To combat this we utilize a larger diameter MAF housing to increase the maximum amount of airflow the ECU can accurately measure. This is done in tandem with a new ECU calibration.

So how much bigger did we go? A couple of factors went into our decision. We wanted this to work well with our turbo inlet pipe which has an 80mm inlet that necks down to 76mm.  The 27WON Race MAF is also designed for the 27WON hybrid CAI system which is approximately 76mm ID out of the airbox. With input and output considered we designed the Race MAF with an 80mm ID which will provide consistent airflow through the entire intake system given there is a MAF sensor hanging inside the MAF housing.

Just as we did for the OE size intake systems, we utilize a smooth transition design from the silicone couplers to the MAF housing and connected components like the airbox and turbo inlet pipe.  By doing this we keep airflow smooth and consistent through the system which improves efficiency and therefore performance.

You can see where the grey silicone meets the inside of the orange MAF housing…no step, no sharp edge or wall for the airflow to hit and become turbulent. Many intakes don’t bother with these little details, but for the team at 27WON these are the details that add up to a well-designed and performing aftermarket part for your Civic.

Lastly, the 27WON Race MAF Kit will include new silicone couplers specifically fitted to the Race MAF. Our up coming kit will work with either the OE turbo inlet pipe or the 27WON Turbo Inlet Pipe as well as be a standalone upgrade for those with our intake already equipped. If you haven’t pulled the trigger on the 27WON Cold Air Intake System then celebrate because soon you can go straight to the Race MAF setup if your heart desires!

Thanks for tuning in with 27WON Performance…we are very close to launching the Race MAF Kit for the Honda Community!
