FK8 Front Mount Intercooler Core launches for the 2017+ Type R

Today we are excited to announce the release of our FMIC core for the Honda Civic Type R

Our upgraded intercooler kit is packed with features which when combined together netted us a system that gained over 25+ WHP and TQ once optimized with a tune. We are offing this as a complete intercooler core upgrade that comes with all the stuff you will need for a seamless install on your FK8. Lets recap on the key features below that put this upgrade in a league of its own.

The most unique feature of the 27WON CTR intercooler is our cast inlet (hot side) end tank. While most aftermarket manufacturers opted for a simple oval flange that bolts to the OEM hot side we decided to eliminate that restriction and eliminate that interface with our design. This allowed us to maximize the available space and create the smoothest path for airflow into the core. We integrated airfoils into the end tank to make sure that the air was distributed across the entire surface area of the core. To dive into further detail on why those airfoils are so important be sure and read part 2 of our design blog here.

Now let’s talk cores. You will hear lots of talk about the two most common types; bar and plate vs tube and fin. Our FMIC utilizes a bar and plate style for a variety of reasons. First, a bar and plate is much more durable compared to a tube and fin. This means it can take more of the abuse it will see living the front mount life. Second, the internal structure allows the core to function as a large heat sink and thus offers better cooling in all driving conditions. Combine that with our optimized core density and fin design and this kit drop’s IAT’s (intake air temps) like a bad habit.

It’s not just what’s on the inside that matters but the outside as well. We added air guides on the end tanks to ensure outside air goes through the core and not around it. The kit also includes a seal for the top of the core to close the gap between the core and the crash bar. It was important to us that we do everything possible to keep the pressure high in front of the intercooler and (cooler) air going through the system for maximum efficiency and more power potential.

All this adds up to a kit that gives your power you can feel, Check out all our final numbers in part 3 of our design blog series here.
