11th Generation Si Exhaust - Details in Design - Design Blog Pt 2

In design blog part 1, we gave you a look at the OEM exhaust on the 11th generation Honda Civic Si from the downpipe to the exhaust tips. One of the main things we highlighted was all the various size changes in the system.

The fact that the OEM system is always changing was one of the things we wanted to address for a more free-flowing system.

So, in this blog let's jump into the design details that make this the best-sounding exhaust system for the 2022 Honda Civic Si.

Let’s resume the discussion at the front pipe (FP) and explore the details of our FP-back system that will be available soon. Of course, replacing the downpipe before the FP is a great power modification too. Learn about that in this blog here.

First up was material. Your stock exhaust is made from 409-grade steel. This is a type of Carbon steel that is pretty common. It offers average performance and is relatively light. It's durable and can last the life of the car as long as it’s taken care of. However, like most things in life, OEM exhaust systems are created with compromises to meet cost and design standards.

To help bring out the bling factor under your car and give it an even longer-lasting finish, we made our entire system out of T304 stainless steel.

T304 offers very high corrosion resistance, a great finish, and is very durable. It’s a perfect upgrade under your seat.

To help your ride breathe better, we up the pipe diameter from 54mm to 63.5mm. That’s an over 17% bump in size to help reduce back pressure and increase performance. Not only does it aid in helping the turbo breathe, but it also drastically changes the sound of the system to give you a new tone that you will want to proudly display to your friends and at car shows.

While we love a louder and more aggressive sound, if you are not careful, you can easily make that louder sound, obnoxious and unappealing.

To keep the tones on pitch, we use a pair of dual-phase resonators at each tip to make sure the sound is both deep and pleasing.

The large resonators give you an aggressive sound all without much restriction in airflow.

Of course, piecing it all together is just as important and is why we use three bolt sealing on all our flanges. This type of sealing far outperforms both slip joints and two-bolt flanges which almost always seem to leak. Flange joints are the worst as they flex and move from all the heat cycling and loosen up over time. The three-bolt design along with our custom-made gaskets make sure your exhaust gasses only go one way, out the tips.

Speaking of tips, you know we have to finish the exhaust off with a WOW factor. We complete the exhaust with our dual wall polished tips with SS logo plates that let others know that only premium 27WON quality parts go on your Civic.
